Don't just learn the skills. Use them to make a real impact.
Cross boundaries of the conventional classroom. Honors service learning courses unpack the complexity of community issues from a variety of angles, then work with nonprofit partners to address them head-on with academic, research-based solutions.
Spring // Learn the tools of big data from a team of experts, then teach it to local high school students. You'll learn a variety of skills from data visualization to ethics, then mentor a team in the high school Data Jam competition.
Fall // Never see the word “organic” — or your plate — the same again. Go behind the scenes of our massively complex food systems, and unpack the implications from plant to plate. Guest experts from local farms, nonprofits, and more will guide you through the nuances and the (purposefully) hidden side of food.
Service learning courses draw on current issues and community needs. In the past, we've offered coureses with real-world projects on Composing Digital Media to support cancer patients, Teaching Art History for local children, and more.
We're always innovating new ways to connect coursework to the community — and student input helps us bring new ideas to the schedule!
