Spring 2019 Honors first-year seminar
Only 15 seats - with Aidan Beatty
Break down 3 of the most important (and most controversial) topics of our contemporary world: racism, sexism, and capitalism. Trace their shared origins, their historical development, and ask: if they have a past and a present, does that also mean they might have an end point in the future?
You will get to vote on the core text for the course:
- Kirsten R. Ghose. Why Women Have Better Sex Under Socialism, and Other Arguments for Economic Independence (2018)
- Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor, From #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation (2016)
- Raj Patel & Jason Moore. A History of the World in Seven Cheap Things: A Guide to Capitalism, Nature and the Future of Our Planet (2017)
Your final project will be to draft a research proposal. If you also want to pursue your research project, you'll be able to submit your proposal for funding at Pitt.
