HONORS 1510 - fall

Get a new perspective on health & illness

What do a medical researcher and humorist David Sedaris have in common? They’ve got plenty to say about illness — and both of their perspectives reveal a lot.

Journal articles aren’t the only way to learn about about medical issues. In fact, they can miss some things. We'll look at popular fiction like Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse 5, as well as first-person accounts to cover ilnesses across the spectrum of health, from OCD to cancer.

Then, we'll combine these human insights with the scholarly perspective to piece together a much more nuanced picture of medical issues.

For undergraduates in any major. While we will be reading journal articles, you won’t need previous medical knowledge. Books for this course will be provided.
