Ian Riggins National Scholarships Advisor
Ian Riggins joined the University Honors College in 2015 as the National Scholarships Advisor. He helps students identify national awards related to their academic and professional goals and works with them to craft competitive applications.
Originally from Fairfax County, Virginia, Ian moved to his adoptive hometown of Pittsburgh in 2003. He earned his BA from the University of Pittsburgh in 2007, majoring in English Writing and Film Studies. In 2013 he earned his MFA in Creative Writing from Chatham University, where he also obtained a concentration in teaching and served as the Second-Year Teaching Fellow. He has most recently worked as an adjunct creative writing professor at Chatham and a marketing/communications specialist for the online clothing retailer ModCloth.
An active fiction writer, Ian’s published work has won and been nominated for several awards. He has taught at the Allegheny County Jail through Chatham’s Words Without Walls program and at Pittsburgh’s Environmental Charter School through an after-school nature-writing program. He also served as co-founder and fiction editor for IDK Magazine, a Pittsburgh-based literary journal.
Ian’s other interests include film, baseball, fashion, science fiction, role-playing games, and exploring the Pennsylvania landscape. He lives in Pittsburgh’s Morningside neighborhood with his wife Amanda, a film journalist.
